In addition to first-class Spanish instruction, Nebaj Language School is conveniently situated in the Ixil Region which provides a wealth of additional activities. Our staff will be happy to assist you with arranging these experiences.

Hiking and Trekking
The Ixil region offers an array of scenic hiking trips. Anywhere from Half-day to three day guided excursions are available. You are sure to enjoy the pristine scenery and unique culture of mountain villages like Cocop, Acul, and El Mirador.

Sampling of Boxboles
 Deriving their name from the Ixil word meaning "folded dough," Boxboles have long been the traditional hallmark plate of the Ixil region. This vegetarian dish is simple but delicious. Local legend holds that when a stranger consumes these local delicacies they become enamored of the Ixil region and will continue to visit the area for the remainder of their life.

Visit to Traditional Sauna
 El temescal is a traditional indigenous bath. This bath is used to assist in the detoxification and purification of the body while enhancing the relaxation of the mind. The "chu", as they call it locally, consists of entering an enclosed room in which fire-heated water is used to cleanse the body. You can enjoy the experience alone or with friends.

 Experience the rich culture of Guatemala by living with a family during your stay. We offer boarding with indigenous Mayan or Ladino families. Along with your room you will also receive two meals a day. This opportunity not only provides a great way to meet people in the community but it also is a great way to practice your Spanish outside of class.

Volunteer in the Community
 Depending on your interests and length of stay, we often have volunteer opportunities available. One of our ongoing projects is an after-school program and lending library called "El Centro Explorativo". If you are interested in volunteering please let us know and we will do our best to accomodate you.
